Calopsita

A calopsita ou caturra (Nymphicus hollandicus) é uma ave que pertence à ordem dos Psitaciformes e à família Psittacidae. Natural da Austrália, a espécie foi descrita pela primeira vez em 1792.
A Calopsita é uma ave dócil que pode ser conservada como animal de estimação. A plumagem pode ser de várias cores: amarelo, branco, cinza, etc. Normalmente a calopsita tem em cada face uma pinta laranja que protege os ouvidos da ave. No macho adulto a face é amarela com a pinta laranja, na fêmea a face é cinzenta com infiltrações de amarelo e a pinta laranja não se destaca tanto. A crista no topo da cabeça também varia de cores. O comprimento médio é de 30 cm. É uma ave muito barulhenta, que pode estar horas a emitir gritos, mas podem assobiar e algumas chegam até a falar. Os machos têm a capacidade de falar e as fêmeas apenas assobiam.

The Cockatiel Parakeet (Nymphicus hollandicus), also known as the Quarrion and the Weero, is a diminutive cockatoo endemic to Australia and prized as a household pet. They are relatively easy to breed and keep in captivity and they are kept throughout the world as pets.

The only member of the genus Nymphicus, the Cockatiel has previously been considered a crested parrot or small cockatoo. However, more recent molecular studies have settled the debate, showing their closest relatives to be the black cockatoos of the genus Calyptorhynchus. They are hence now classified as the smallest of the Cacatuidae (cockatoo family). Cockatiels are natively found across the outback regions of inland Australia, and favour the Australian wetlands, scrublands, and bush lands.
